It’s been about 6 months since I got some New Balances and I’ve been wanting to try a current model from them! Today’s pickup are these New Balance 997S Multicolor.
The S in 997S stands for “Sport”, and the sneaker is one of a couple of newer models from the brand derived from the classic 997.
These ship in a basic grey New Balance box and only include flat white laces. These laces seem to be a little nicer than the cheapest laces you can find, but still fairly unremarkable. This sneaker is definitely made to be worn rather than as a special release with lots of extras. These feature 997S on the tongue tag and insole, with the Abzorb logo on the back of the sneaker, Encap Reveal on the midsole, and New Balance towards the toe.
I got these because I didn’t want to spring for the multicolor 992 and I liked the shape on these better. Overall I’m happy with these and can recommend getting at least one colorway of this model to round out a New Balance collection if you’re a fan of the brand.
How Are The Materials?
These sneakers have a very basic level of GR materials for the most part. We get a very “retro runner” GR level of felt suede and mesh for a bulk of the upper, with a basic leather on the N logo. Surprisingly, there is a nubuck hit on the back which is very soft and high quality. Overall the materials are nothing special besides that patch on the rear. However, this model isn’t advertised as premium or made in USA. Thus, I would expect the materials to be pretty basic at this price point.
How Do They Fit?
These New Balance 997S Multicolor are comfy at true to size. These return a nice, snug but comfy fit at that size. The toebox is nice and pointy too, at least from a silhouette view.
